First Quilt Show

Well, I'm going to try it!! I just finished up a beautiful quilt that I'm referring to as my "Log Cabin Miniature." It measures about 21.5" and has 64 blocks in it, each measuring 2.5" with 13 'logs'. It turned out beautiful! So far, just the top is finished.

One of the ladies on the About.com quilting forum mentioned that I should enter it into a show. If for nothing else than the experience. In trying to find somewhere to put it, I found out that the Colorado State Fair is being held in September! How lucky for me! I found the contest rules and everything. If I get right on it, I should have it ready in time to enter. The theme this year is "Wild, Wild, West." How lucky is it that my quilt is a log cabin with a star in the center and the rest is a barn raising pattern? Every inch of it symbolizes the old west and the rise of our nation. How nifty!

There, isn't it lovely? I love how it turned out. I need to change my game plan on the backing material though. The color I was going to use wouldn't work quite right. Too dark for the lighter side that I'm planning on doing the intricate quilting on. So, need to change it to something lighter with a pattern to help disguise any errors I might make. At least I have known from the beginning how I wanted to quilt it. Normally I have the hardest time figuring that part out. Not this time! Hurray! Good thing too because it has to be finished by about August 11th. I think I'm supposed to hand deliver it on August 26th though. I'm not sure, I need to call and ask.

Well, that's just about that. I'll show it off again when it's finished. Wish me luck! I've never tried to enter a quilt show before. I'm excited!

The quilt is so pretty! And only 21.5 inches?! How small is each individual log before sewing?
