My son wants to learn!!

Oh, hurray! I know, this might be strange to some, but my son wants to learn how to make a specific quilt block. I'm actually very excited by this, especially since I only have boys. I'll take and teach whomever wants to learn!

I was cutting up some fabrics today for a quilt block and I hand my "strings" to the boys to play with after I square up the fabric. Then my oldest boy asked if you could use those strings to make a spider's web out of them. Gee, what do you know! I've seen one of those blocks. Keep in mind I didn't tell my son that. I asked him to sketch how he thought it could be done. If he did it, and it was right, then I'd let him make a quilt block. He's such a smart little kid. He did a pretty good job. He didn't sketch in the strings, but he understood how it would work. I then pulled out a picture of a scrappy string spider's web block and showed it to him. He now wants to learn how to use my new sewing machine to make a block. I was thinking of using a thin muslin backing for it, so need to go buy some. He was sad that I couldn't teach him RIGHT NOW. I hope that my delay doesn't cause him to lose interest in the idea.

How lucky that I bought a smaller sewing machine recently. Nothing against my children, but I don't exactly trust them with my QD. That's my special toy. *smile* Maybe when it's a bit older I will let them use it, but not yet.

I'd be more than happy to show him how this evening, but we're going to be SO busy that there's no way we'll have enough time. So, I'm hoping to be able to start teaching him tomorrow. If my son actually finishes the block, I'm definitely going to post a picture of it.
