I don't know when as I just got it through Netflix. Being the avid quilter I am, I knew I'd love this show. I read some reviews on it where people complained that there were hardly any "traditional" quilts represented in the 100 best quilts of the 20th century. I will agree with that in some wayErinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-38563533349090407242007-11-21T01:25:00.000-07:002007-11-21T01:28:32.482-07:00SnowWell, it would appear that winter finally decided to come pay us a visit. Odd since our first snow storm this year came before Halloween. It didn't even get cold really until today. It's now snowing and I'm sure my boys will launch themselves at windows in the morning to see how much has fallen overnight and if it's still snowing. You know, looking out the window at falling snow can be so Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-79727192115721499002007-11-18T15:27:00.000-07:002007-11-18T16:01:11.672-07:00A Schedule?Well, I was thinking of all the projects I have going right now and I think that I need to start a schedule of some sort. The main one that most people seem to suggest is the "30 Minute Schedule." All that is, is that you take and put in 30 minutes on a particular UFO (unfinished object) that you don't necessarily want to work on. Some people change the project every day to a different one. I think I'm going to go nuts!! I made the mistake of going to Wal-Mart today. Mind you, we did need milk and bread. While we were going there, I decided to get different shampoo as I didn't like what I was using. However, after browsing the yarn for a little bit, I scooped up my youngest to put him in the cart. This was after about the third time he stopped in front of me and IErinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-91058993446429434672007-11-08T10:49:00.000-07:002007-11-08T11:10:26.430-07:00A New Army WifeTa-Da! That's me. A 100% bona fide active duty Army Wife. So far I'm blessed though. My darling hubby is only at Basic Combat Training (BCT) and not anywhere else at the moment. You know, such as Iraq. I won't have to 'worry' about that happening until sometime next year after he finishes up all of his training. Of course I'm one of thousands of wives praying that their husband doesn't getErinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-30865310425226338302007-10-28T18:04:00.000-06:002007-10-28T18:21:41.292-06:00Don't know why...You know. Sometimes mothers do really dumb things to please their children. My dumb thing that I will do periodically is make rolled-out sugar cookies. I hate doing them. They always seem like a good idea at the time until I go to roll out the dough. THEN I remember why I hate them. I never can seem to roll it out right. And then trying to get those shapes out of the dough is annoying too.Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-40859024402854552222007-10-19T13:46:00.000-06:002007-10-19T14:04:11.451-06:00Be careful...I just learned today to be very careful when you're in a bad mood and making your kids clean up. A little background:My kids have this large set of K'Nex stuff. Mind you, they build neat stuff with it and all that. However, they leave it scattered all over the house! Their favorite thing to scatter? Blue round pieces connected together in such a way as to be very painful if you step on them.Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-78922760087667249942007-10-12T13:31:00.000-06:002007-10-12T13:59:31.291-06:00Cleaning...Did you know that cleaning should be a 'dirty' word? LOL Like many crafters, my idea of 'fun' is NOT cleaning my house. Unfortunately, it was seriously starting to show. Throw in 3 small boys and a wonderful husband who helps, just doesn't do everything, and you can have a disastrous house within any 24 hour period. Remove a mom who doesn't like cleaning anyway but will when forced into it, Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-72368022777572466522007-10-10T09:45:00.000-06:002007-10-10T09:59:17.552-06:00It's Official...Well, DH came back from the recruiters yesterday and it's official. He has been accepted into the Army. We never thought it would take a full year to pull this off, but he finally did it! LOL He has an interview today for the job he would like to have while he's in there. However, he will pick something else if he has to. His recruiter thinks that he'll do just fine though. No bad words on Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-84437256465290135322007-10-09T10:09:00.000-06:002007-10-09T10:31:49.317-06:00A Change of DirectionWell, I came across an interesting thing this past weekend. I couldn't really do any of my hand work due to the fact that I had caught my thimble finger in the garage door late last week so I just worked a lot on some machine projects. However, I also had ample time to think and ponder my love of quilting. I just thought I'd share what I'd discovered.I have learned that I don't like Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-24443426212979518892007-10-02T13:05:00.000-06:002007-10-02T13:19:01.838-06:00I'm a Topper!Well, I have decided that I'm just a 'lowly' topper. That just means I like to make tops. Maybe if I mastered the Quilt-As-You-Go techniques I'd do better. However, I do so like seeing the top finished before I quilt it so that I know how to quilt it. What makes that more 'important' these days is the fact that I've started designing my own stuff. It also makes it even more important to Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-89263902164415731802007-10-01T19:55:00.000-06:002007-10-01T20:10:26.333-06:00Rough DayWell, today was 'interesting' to say the least. It started out slow and 'normal' and escalated very quickly from there. My husband is within viewing distance of the final line of entering the Army. He brought home a rather long list of paper work that we need to submit before setting the final sign-up date. We have about half of it and need to fork out a good amount of $$ for the rest of it. Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-71641377572111854152007-10-01T09:48:00.000-06:002007-10-01T10:00:17.985-06:00Now What?Well, this is a bummer in a weird way. Yesterday, I finished taking photos of everything and getting them posted into my shop. I don't have anything else ready to go in there though I do have several things in the making. I've been doing some digital scrapbooking, but didn't find anything to download today on the freebie sites. I guess I should be working on something though. It's not like I Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-65091969965129792432007-09-29T12:06:00.000-06:002007-10-01T11:29:56.516-06:00It's Up!Well, I said that I'd post a quick listing in both of my blogs when the store opened up. There's practically nothing there yet because I have yet to take some pictures of what I do have finished. However, I have plans on doing some of that today. My camera is flaky so it takes time. The LCD screen went out on it and it's hard to see what I'm taking photos of. It still takes great pictures, Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-57109473351434956532007-09-26T15:15:00.000-06:002007-09-26T16:19:22.392-06:00Lord give me strengthThat may seem to be a strange way to start off a blog, but it's the truth. My husband has been trying to get into the Army since ... Not sure really. It's been a long time. Ever since they announced their intentions to accept anyone up to the age of 42, he's been trying. Anyway, it has been an interesting "ride." Today he passed his final physical. They had a few issues with an Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-66621567228364227632007-09-26T09:41:00.000-06:002007-09-26T09:54:24.593-06:00More on the quilt restoration...Okay, a little more background on this quilt. It umm... belongs to my parents. LOL I talked to my mom yesterday about the work I'm doing on it and to get permission to do a few things, such as those patches that are falling apart. Turns out that my step-father just likes to curl up under it for naps and the like when the weather gets cooler. So that changes a few things.First of all, when I Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-49663795919840270412007-09-25T10:21:00.000-06:002007-09-25T10:28:21.182-06:00Wow!!Well, it sure has been a LONG time since I did anything here. I go in and out of my quilting periodically. I just recently got back into it. I'm now working on finishing up that vintage quilt. I've been requested to not mess with it too much and just to basically put a new binding on it. I can't do it. LOL I found 4 patches that HAVE to be replaced. I've already removed one and will work Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-3285120166789790682007-07-12T17:37:00.001-06:002007-07-12T17:56:32.962-06:00Quilt Restoration ContinuedJust thought I'd jump in here really quick. The temperatures have fallen, thank goodness, and the rain has moved in. Yay! I like rain and the like. Our lawn really likes it too. *grin* I have learned that working on a full sized quilt requires a TV tray! LOL I have learned to pile the quilt on the tray and keep it off my lap. I know, that sounds very much like a 'duh' moment, but I'm notErinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-50715584408673047682007-07-03T13:58:00.000-06:002007-07-03T14:31:01.417-06:00Nothing Much GoingWell, not a whole lot is going on around here right now. The temperatures have shot through the roof and have made working on just about anything fabric a nightmare. A full sized quilt is practically out of the question. So, unfortunately, I do not have anything new to add to my quilt restoration project as of right now. I have a few ideas on how to go about working on it without the heat Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-58451316974451908262007-06-18T09:29:00.000-06:002007-06-18T09:42:46.182-06:00Quilt Restoration DisclaimerWell, nothing major has happened for now. I just wanted to ramble on for a moment. I did a lot of research last night and discovered that most quilts that are restored aren't technically 'used' again. The one that I'm working on is a different story. I also think that it can be used again to a certain extent. I will warn the owners that the patches will continue to fall apart over time. If Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-85772735193851588202007-06-16T13:13:00.000-06:002007-06-16T13:51:37.803-06:00Quilt Restoration Well, it has begun! I have started to restore the utility quilt. It's been fun and frustrating all at the same time. I did a very simple seam repair first. The maker of the quilt would occasionally sew together 2 pieces of fabric to get a patch the right size. On one of those seams, it had split apart. Easy enough to fix with a hidden applique stitch. We have been so sick in our house lately. I've been working on a small round robin that I'm on in another group. There were so many of us participating that we split off into 3 groups. My group is all ready to send to the next person, except for me! I decided to do a lot of applique on the first block. I'll admit that I've allowed other things to get in the way. Such as being sick...Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-3115312510101405332007-06-11T13:26:00.000-06:002007-06-11T13:35:19.438-06:00Quilt RestorationWell, I've been asked by a good friend to take a look at a vintage quilt she had and to see if I could fix it. What makes this the ideal quilt to work on is the fact that it's always been the "utility quilt." It has gone everywhere and done everything! She only wants it useable again, nothing more. I have decided to completely log everything I do in the hopes that I can do this for more Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-70250871602668381572007-02-15T16:09:00.000-07:002007-02-15T16:15:27.128-07:00Nothing Really New...Not sure why I'm even blogging right now except I'm REALLY bored. I'm actually a medical transcriptionist, but it's hard getting the work sometimes unless you're willing to just SIT and hit the "get work" button over and over again. You know, I used to work for another company who's software would do that FOR you. No, not this company. Oh, well. I recently went through a 1-2 week span of not Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22329579.post-1170618401320429782007-02-04T12:19:00.000-07:002007-02-04T12:46:41.340-07:00Hand Piecing for NowWell, it had to happen some time. On the quilting forum on About.com, there is actually a pretty large hand piecing following. It's important to keep this form of quilting alive, don't you know. Anyway, one of the members, RabidQuilter, has decided to do a block of the month (BOM). This month's selection is called "Brilliant Cut." Looks hard as all get out, and I'd never want to tackle it by Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02140125238259901708noreply@blogger.com0
